Any suggestions as to what to do in regards to my brush options not being available? They are just kind of grayed out
Hi! When you try to change your brush settings, is the pen tool still selected? You can access all the brush options without having the actual brush selected, and when that happens, everything is grayed out. :3
This is awesome! I have one question though: It would not let me hit "stroke path", so I was wondering what I did wrong there? Or if there was any way to fix that?
It sounds like the layer is locked.
ohhh! How do I unlock it?
Are you on the background layer? I don't think that can be unlocked. Make a new layer, which should already be unlocked. To lock/unlock it in the future, there's a little padlock icon at the top of the "layers" box. You can just click/unclick it. You can find more info on layers here: photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/la…
I actually made about 30 layers with a bunch of different lines ^^'' I was filling in features like the eyes and such and I couldn't figure out how to do that all on one layer... and I found that the layers are actually not locked, but I'm using a mac for this so I might have everything on the wrong settings so that might have screwed it up a bit eheheh ><
I love making vexel/vectors in Photoshop so I use the Pen tool quite a lot. Turns out there are some techniques for this tool that I didn't know of. Thanks! This is helpful.
Is it possible after a curved path to make the line automatically straight?
I'm not sure what you mean! *o* If your settings look like the ones in my tutorial, then making two points will automatically create a perfectly straight line. If you have made a curved path, you can click on the middle point(s) to make the line straight again. :3
Thanks, so helpful!
This will be helpful one day
Y so many comments?!
What an awesome tutorial! One question though: My lines (when I select "simulate pressure") end up being way, way thick in the middle and super thin at the ends. Are there any particular settings that you lean towards to avoid this, and get a more naturally tapered line?
Yep! If you play with your minimum diameter and set it to around 50%, you get a much more balanced line! >w<
This has to be shared!
Thank you so much! The pen tool has confused me for aaaaages, and thanks to you I'll be able to draw much smoother lineart :3 this is so helpful <3
too small... cant see art...
While I'm used with the pen tool in Illustrator, I'd never thought you could the same in Photoshop. Thank you very much for this tutorial!
I'm not really sure about how to get my settings right, as it looks pretty different in PS6. Could you describe what they'd be called to get the same settings as in this tutorial?
Sure! The actual toolbox icon should be set to Pen Tool. (Not freeform or anything like that.) The two buttons at the top are Paths and Pen Tool. :3
I'm pretty stuck with this tutorial, I CTRL and drag into a curve and it blacks out as a half circle- what am I doing wrong?
You need to change your settings. Check out the first image in the tutorial and make sure your settings are identical to the ones circled. :3
Holy cow that's useful.
I sincerely thank you posting this tutorial; it is proving instrumental.
Unfortunately, that program does not support any form of the pen tool. D: I'm sorry!
This is really informative! Thanks!
Now I have one idea of how to use the pen tool, thanks a lot for this tutorial
